The theme for Safer Internet Day 2012 is Connecting Generations to encourage families to unite and share internet know-how to help stay safe. This is celebrated worldwide since 2003 and by a wide range of organisations and schools.

In preparation for the Safer Internet Day 2012, the UK Safer Internet Centre (SIC) has made available resources for schools on their website, which includes lesson plans, assemblies, and quick ideas for teachers and games. There are a range of other resources available, such as online banners for websites and email signatures, a short video clip, and newsletter text to help promote the day.

The UK SIC are organising activities on the day such as 12 hour radio programme, including the leading voices on online safety in the UK and worldwide, from Government, industry, academia, civil society, as well as parents, teachers and young people themselves. The Centre will host a debate at Portcullis House, to an audience of MPs, industry and other stakeholders. This will involve primary and secondary aged children, and parents, bringing the Connecting Generations theme to life.
