It's all Play

This Ideas Box looks at play and the Early Years.

Children learn so much through the act of playing, whether it is structured parent led play, free play inside and out or planned activities supported by relevant practitioners.

Read and Write Together, Count and Figure it Out Together is a magazine style resource to download aimed at parents and carers of young children containing tips games and activities.

Playing and talking contains a guide outlining the benefits of play and offering tips for parents and carers.

Early Years Foundation Stage pilot – developed  sample session plans and materials for the original EYFS and though the new revisions will need to be taken into account there are good ideas here for Family Learning tutors to adapt and use with families.

The People Make Play report demonstrates how staffed play services are a vital element in the multi-agency approach to improving outcomes for children, families and communities and are also thought to be more cost-effective than established statutory services.

Development Matters is a new non-statutory guidance  produced by Early Education supporting practitioners in implementing the statutory requirements of the EYFS Framework 2012.
